The bridge decides the fleet

Every ship leaving Port Tampa Bay has to pass beneath the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which limits air draft to roughly 180 feet. The newest and largest classes simply do not fit, so Tampa is a mid-size-ship port.

It shows in the fleet. All 12 ships sailing from Tampa were built between 1997 and 2007, and the largest of them carries 2,680 guests. On a ship that size you are never far from a lift, and the queues are shorter.

What is the cheapest month to cruise from Tampa?

On the fares we have on file, November 2026 carries the lowest lead-in price at $169 per person. Late summer and early autumn are consistently the cheapest stretch. They overlap hurricane season, which is why fares drop. Holiday sailings in late December are the most expensive.

Why are there no giant ships sailing from Tampa?
