Why Travelers Choose Tampa Bay Departures

Tampa is the easiest large cruise port in Florida to actually get to and out of — which is most of the reason people pick it over Miami or Port Canaveral.

Parking at the terminal

Garages sit directly across from the terminals, so you park and walk. Rates and the garage-by-terminal breakdown are in our parking guide.

Nine miles from the airport

Tampa International is a 15–20 minute drive from Channelside — the shortest airport-to-ship hop of any major Florida cruise port.

Small terminals, quick boarding

Tampa handles one or two ships a day, not six. Check-in queues are short and boarding is usually straightforward.

Frequently asked questions

Which cruise lines sail from Tampa?
Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Margaritaville at Sea all operate out of Port Tampa Bay across the period we track. Between them they run 464 departures on 12 ships between August 2026 and April 2028.
What is the cheapest month to cruise from Tampa?
On the fares we have recorded, November 2026 carries the lowest lead-in price at $279 per person. Late summer and early autumn are consistently the cheapest stretch — they overlap hurricane season, which is exactly why fares drop. Holiday sailings in late December are the most expensive by a wide margin.
Why are there no giant ships sailing from Tampa?
Every ship leaving Port Tampa Bay has to pass under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which limits air draft to roughly 180 feet. That rules out the newest and largest classes, so Tampa is a mid-size-ship port — the biggest regulars carry around 2,700 guests.
How far ahead are Tampa cruise schedules published?
Lines typically open bookings 18 to 24 months out, in waves. Our window currently runs to April 2028; months near the far end are thinner simply because those schedules have not all been released yet.
How long are cruises from Tampa?
Anywhere from 4 to 16 nights. The bulk of the calendar is four- and five-night runs to Mexico and six- to eight-night Western Caribbean loops; anything longer than nine nights is unusual from this port.
Which terminal will my ship use?
Port Tampa Bay runs three cruise terminals on and around Channelside. Terminal 2 handles Carnival and Royal Caribbean, Terminal 3 handles Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and Holland America, and Terminal 6 sits just north of Terminal 3. Your terminal is printed on your boarding documents — see our terminal guide for layout and drop-off detail.
